Martin Antoine DEL RIO, learned Dutch Jesuit, born in Antwerp in 1551, died in Louvain in 1608. Awarded a Doctorate in Spain, he taught Philosophy and Theology in Salamanca, Douai, Liège and Louvain.
A valuable work on witchcraft and the various forms of magic. Martin del Rio was able to dissertate with experience on the procedure to be followed in matters of witchcraft, on the manner of giving the question to the accused. Wasn't he one of the fiercest members of the Blood Council set up by the Duke of Alba in Flanders?
