Lot no. 20
DELACROIX (Eugène)
S. l., s. d. [Paris, 1861 or 1862].
Autograph letter signed to a friend.
1 p. in-12 on two sheets of wove paper.
Having had a setback, he asks: "would there be any way of postponing our visit to Mr Sirouy until tomorrow, Saturday, at the same time: you would oblige me very much as I am very keen to see the beginning of his drawing and yet I would like to be able to leave on Sunday if absolutely necessary."
Achille Sirouy (1834-1904) made a fine portrait of Delacroix in 1862 from a photograph by Étienne Carjat, lithographed and printed by Lemercier. One copy was a gift from the painter to Charles Baudelaire.
