By capturing the naked figure, covered only by white gauze, of a young blonde woman smelling the sweet scent of her irises, our large pastel illustrates everything that made Delphin Enjolras such a success. Known for his intimate scenes of women in states of undress, usually lit by electric interior lights, the artist also made pastel his preferred technique, as he felt it best captured the bewitching atmosphere of his subjects.
