DEMOSTHEN. Κατά Φιλίππου. Contra Philippum oratio prima. Ejusdem de pace. Paris, Chrétien Wechel, 1546. - Ὁ περί τῆς των Ῥοδίων ἐλευθερίας λόγος. De Rhodiorum libertate oratio. Paris, André Wechel, 1557. - Ὁ πρὸς τὸν Λεπτίνην λόγος. Oratio ad Leptinem. Paris, Chrétien Wechel, 1532. - Ὁ κατὰ Ἀριστοκράτους λόγος. Contra Aristocratem oratio. Paris, Gilles de Gourmont, s.d. [c. 1532]. 4 works in one small volume in-4, marbled basane, ornate spine, gilt edges (19th century binding). Precious collection of four very rare Greek impressions of these speeches and political pleadings by Demosthenes: the first Philippic followed by On Peace, For the Freedom of the Rhodians, Against the Law of Leptine, and finally Against Aristocratus.
All were published in Paris: the first three by Chrétien Wechel or his son André, who succeeded him in 1554; and the last by Gilles de Gourmont, with the third Greek font from his workshop, which appeared around 1525. As early as 1507, Gilles de Gourmont had been the first printer in the capital to publish volumes entirely in Greek.
From the library of Dr H. Mignon, with bookplate.
Minor spotting to binding; scattered foxing and spotting.
Moreau, IV, nos. 395 and 398.
