Denise Gatard (1908–1991) was a French ceramicist and the elder sister of the renowned ceramicist Georges Jouve.
Trained by the lacquer artist Jean Dunand, she began developing an original body of work in the 1940s, combining ceramics, research into glazes and influences from lacquer art.
Her creations are characterised by free-flowing, minimalist and often asymmetrical forms, as well as by contrasts of white, black, brown and gold.
Very active in the 1950s and 1960s, she exhibited at major decorative arts fairs and collaborated notably with the interior designer Maurice Pré.
