Very rare single edition of Abel Matthieu's translation into Latin verse, accompanied by the extensive commentary by Eustathius of Thessalonica, also translated into Latin. The title of the volume bears the fine engraved mark of Poncet Le Preux. Denys the Periegete's important treatise on ancient geography was written in Greek during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (AD 117-138). This long didactic poem had already been translated into Latin by Avienus in the fourth century and by Priscian in the sixth. Robert Estienne published the editio princeps in Greek in 1547.
