DEPRAZ (Charles). Catastrophe of 23 August 1866. A rescue on Mont Blanc. Annecy, Thesio, 1866. In-8°, paperback, soft cover. First edition. This very rare brochure relates the accident that occurred during the ascent of Mont Blanc by George, Albert and James Young. The three brothers made the ascent without a guide, but fell on the way down. This fall, observed from Chamonix, led to the death of Sir James Young, and the rescue operation was difficult. This is followed by an account of the accident involving the Arkwright caravan, which fell victim to a serac avalanche between the Petit and Grand Plateau with its guide and two porters.
Dr. Charles Depraz was a doctor and professor at the University of Turin. He defended his doctorate in medicine in Turin in 1852. He followed the rescue operations during the accident that befell the three Young brothers.
