In-4 square (26,2 x 26,7 cm), jansenist binding in mordoré calf tinted with a darker tiger pattern, smooth spine with title in plum œser, the word "macchabé" in beige calf mosaic set with plum œser, elephant grey cloth lining and endpapers, trimmed head, covers and spine preserved, folder and slipcase (m[onique] m[athieu] - 1970). First edition. Decorated with 6 original wood engravings by André Derain, including 4 full-page engravings. The text by René Dalize is followed by two tributes, one by André Salmon, the other by Guillaume Apollinaire. Limited edition of 135 numbered copies; one of 110 on Arches laid paper (no. 55) signed by the artist at the justification. Henri Kahnweiler's label affixed to the cover. This expressive binding by Monique Mathieu is listed in the Catalogue des reliures de Monique Mathieu (Paris: Bulletin du Bibliophile, 1973-III, no. 203) and was included in the exhibition "Reliures de Monique Mathieu" in Brussels (Bibliotheca Wittockiana, 1992-1993, no. 4, reproduced in colour).
