Lot no. 39
DEUBEL Léon (1879-1913). Léliancolies : la Chanson du pauvre Gaspard, poems. Paris, Revue verlainienne, 1903; in-16 black morocco, gilt title on upper cover, muted ribbed spine, gilt head, cover, black slipcase (Loutrel). Partly first edition of this collection originally published in 1901. This one is just as rare as the first. ☞ Copy on publisher's paper, enriched with an autograph letter from the author to the poet Alfred Massebiau, who had published a collection with Vanier in 1902 entitled Pour la Dame de Jadis. We know that Vanier charged young poets in search of glory, and that sales were not always forthcoming. Léon Deubel threw himself into the Marne and Massebiau did not produce a second book. - A very fine copy.
