Lot no. 825
German painter (active in the 18th century)
The Three Graces
Scantily covered by flowing silk scarves and adorned with delicate pearl and gold jewellery, Euphrosyne, Aglaia and Thalia - the three daughters of Zeus - are staged in a Renaissance interior, accompanied by a harp-playing putto who has settled down on a red velvet cushion. Graceful depictions of nudes, executed with a fine, glazed brushstroke in a delicate colouring that forms an attractive contrast to the bright colours of the mosaic floor. Tempera/ivory. 18.8 cm x 14.6 cm. Frame.
Provenance: Dissolution of an important German private collection - part II.
