German portrait painter (active 2nd quarter of the 19th century) Pair of portraits of Leopold Karl Wilhelm von Knobelsdorff-Brenkenhoff and his wife Franziska von Knobelsdorff-Brenkenhoff Meticulously painted, representative, late Biedermeier portraits from the period around 1842-1848. Leopold Karl Wilhelm von Knobelsdorff-Brenkenhoff (1769 - 1848) came from the aristocratic von Knobelsdorff family in Brandenburg, his wife (1775-1858) from the aristocratic von Brenkenhoff family. In 1842, the name and coat of arms were merged with those of von Brenkenhoff, and the family continued to exist as von Knobelsdorff-Brenkenhoff. He was a knight of the Order of St John and owner of various estates. Watercolour and gouache/paper. Stately frame with family coat of arms and baronial crown.
