Lot no. 1396
Germany - Landscapes Fruit, Adolf On Hiddensee. Circa 1916-1932. Oil on fibreboard. 48 x 70.5 cm. Signed and with artist's address verso. Framed. The Berlin painter Adolf Obst's oeuvre focussed on atmospheric landscape depictions. For the idyllic view of Hiddensee, Obst deliberately set a low horizon and devoted himself in particular to the powerful depiction of the moving sky, which is stirred up by the rough sea air. He also artfully utilises the partially translucent ground, lending the scene an immediate lightness. - The card slightly wavy overall, with small pinholes in the lower corners (presumably from earlier framing), with isolated, inconspicuous colour flaking and abrasion in the upper left, slightly dusty on the surface. Overall in good condition. Atmospheric landscape scene with impasto-moving brushstrokes. The Berlin painter Adolf Obst's oeuvre focused on atmospheric landscape depictions.
