Rare white earthenware pendant plates, polychrome decoration representing respectively Saint André and Saint Françoise with the respective inscriptions: ".André.Benard.1757." and ".françoise.Penicault.femme. / .de.andré.Benard.1757".

The subjects of our plates were André Besnard, who married Françoise Pénicault in Montrichard (Centre-Val-de-Loire) on 19 November 1743. André was certainly a sailor like his father. In fact, in his marriage certificate, André is said to be the son of the deceased "Charles Besnard, voiturier par eau" and a native of the parish of Saint Hilaire de Tours.
