A set of two lock cases from the Tuileries Palace burnt during the "Commune de Paris".
Commentary:
During the Commune, in May 1871, the Palais was burnt down by around thirty federates.
After many years of dithering over proposals to rebuild or save it, the decision was taken to demolish the remains in 1879. It was not until 1883 that the ruins were razed to the ground, leaving the Carrousel Arch standing alone in front of the garden.
