DIAGHILEW (Serge de). Set of 4 volumes in a common slipcase comprising: - LAURENCIN (Marie) and DIAGHILEW (Serge de). Les Biches. Paris, Quatre chemins, 1924. 2 volumes in-4 in paperback with coloured illustrated covers by Marie Laurencin, first edition of this work devoted to Bronislava Nijinska's ballet Les Biches first performed on 6 January 1924 by Serge de Diaghilev's Ballets Russes to music by Francis Poulenc and with sets and costumes designed by Marie Laurencin. The first volume includes a portrait of Nijinska after a drawing by Jean Cocteau, an article by Cocteau, a portrait of Francis Poulenc after Marie Laurencin, an article by Darius Milhaud, a reproduction of Poulenc's score and 14 colour reproductions of drawings and paintings by Marie Laurencin. The second volume is devoted to the stage production and includes a photographic portrait of Marie Laurencin based on a Man Ray photograph and 23 photographs by Georges Detaille depicting the various artists in the ballet. Limited edition of 335 numbered copies, this one n°89, one of 200 on Arches vellum. - BRAQUE (Georges) and DIAGHILEW (Serge de). Les facheux. Paris, éditions des quatre chemins, 1924. 2 volumes in-4 in paperback with coloured illustrated covers by Georges Braque, first edition of this work devoted to Boris Kochno's ballet Les Facheux based on Molière's comedy-ballet, first performed on 19 January 1924 at the Monte-Carlo theatre, with music by Georges Auric, choreography by Nijinska and sets and costumes designed by Georges Braque. The first volume includes an article and an out-of-text portrait of Georges Auric by Jean Cocteau, an article by Louis Laloy, a reproduction of Georges Auric's score and 23 colour reproductions of set and costume designs by Georges Braque. The second volume is devoted to the stage production and includes a photographic portrait of Georges Braque based on a photograph by Man Ray and 22 photographs by Georges Detaille depicting the various artists in the ballet.
