Piermatteo' Maiolica Società Ceramica Luca della Robbia Gualdo Tadino Piermatteo worked at this Umbrian manufactory from around 1925 to 1930; he is counted among the ranks of artists working in the town's 'Della Robbia' factory of artistic ceramics, especially lustrous The artist contributed to the training of young ceramists in Gualdo, promoting, as a pioneer in this choice together with Alfredo Santarelli, the diffusion of the use of the airbrush as the primary means of giving ceramic works verisimilitude and naturalness of nuance, colour and volume. Use of the airbrush is found as a technique in the majolica in question enclosed in a 1920s carved and sculpted frame with special wrought iron stops to prevent the ceramic from moving. On the reverse is the inscription: "S.C. LUCA DELLA ROBBIA Gualdo Tadino Made in Italy (MAN OF ABRUZZO)".
