The painter and landscape artist Michele Cascella learnt majolica decoration in the village of Rapino in the province of Chieti, where he went with his father Basilio and his brothers Tommaso and Giovacchino. Only the latter, fascinated by local production, remained in the small village at the foot of the Majella mountain, working as a ceramist.
Michele produced around 40 drawings in the 1950s called 'Italy as seen by Michele Cascella' for the Società Ceramica Italiana of Laveno, which were used to decorate important tableware.
The bottom plate with mixtilinear brim and decoration in the cavetto of the village of Rapino seen in the distance where the bell tower of the Church of Santo Stefano looms over all the houses
