Lot no. 283
DIODORUS OF SICILY. Histoire universelle. Paris, Debure l'aîné, 1737-1744. 7 volumes in-12, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet and fleurons at the corners, gilt coat of arms on a piece of red morocco in the centre, De Nully supralibris at the top of the first plate, spine decorated, red edges (Period binding). First edition of the French translation by the academician Jean Terrasson (1670-1750).
This copy bears the arms of the Comte de Nully de Grosserve, of Beauvais, who inherited it from the Marquis de Paulmy, one of the most illustrious bibliophiles of the 18th century, whose armorial bookplate is partially covered by that of the Comte de Nully. The copy then belonged to M. Le Caron de Troussures, with a bookplate in Beauvais.
An armorial piece is missing from the second volume.
