Lot no. 554
Dites, Roba..., grease pencil illustration published for a short story in Spirou + n°6 of 16 June 1983. The artist joined André Franquin's studio in 1958. At the time, Jean Roba was also working for an advertising agency and had published three Uncle Paul stories in Spirou. When he joined the Studio Franquin, he assisted the master with the Spirou et Fantasio episodes that appeared in the French daily Le Parisien Libéré in 1959 and 1960. These were "Tembo Tabou", then "Spirou et les Hommes-Bulles" and finally "Les Petits Formats". For these three stories, Roba drew the settings and secondary characters. In this illustration, while drawing plate 9A of "Tembo Tabou", Roba talks about his work in Franquin's studio, alongside Jidéhem and Jean Verbruggen (the colourist). A real nugget, both historical and evocative of the golden age of the Spirou newspaper. Signed and dated 8 March 1983 (trace of sticky paper at the top). Dimensions: 25.1 x 36 cm.
