With this correspondence dated 25 April 1831, the Duke of Wellington appointed Sir John Davis, deputy lieutenant of his West Riding Regiment.
Wellington (Arthur Wellesley, 1769-1852), English soldier and statesman, in addition to his many roles in the service of the Crown, links his name to the epic battle of Waterloo, where he defeated Napoleon on 18 June 1815, decreeing the end of his dominions.
