AUTOGRAPH DOCUMENT OF THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON, ENGLAND, 1831 inscribed in ink, from the duke to John Davis member of the West Riding Regiment, bears a wax stamp at lower right; tears and tears in the sheet, missing wax Paper, ink and wax, 30.5X39.5 cm AN AUTOGRAPH DOCUMENT SIGNED BY THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON, ENGLAND, 1831; DAMAGES, LOSSES With this correspondence dated 25 April 1831, the Duke of Wellington appointed Sir John Davis, deputy lieutenant of his West Riding Regiment. Wellington (Arthur Wellesley, 1769-1852), English soldier and statesman, in addition to his many roles in the service of the Crown, links his name to the epic battle of Waterloo, where he defeated Napoleon on 18 June 1815, decreeing the end of his dominions.
