Lot no. 361
Dom ROBERT (1907-1997)
Buissons ardents, model created in 1991, reduced version of Thermidor (carton of 1975), our copy woven in 1998
Tapestry of basse lisse, wool and cotton, woven in the Goubely-La Beauze workshop (Aubusson), signed and bearing the monogram EC of the Abbey of En-Calcat in the weft down to the left, thus identifying the weavings made by the heirs of Dom Robert after his death in 1997.
Bolduc signed by the brother bursar of the abbey, bearing the wet stamp of the Abbaye d'En-Calcat in Dourgne (Tarn), the title and name of the workshop and the justification 5/6, this justification also repeated on a label.
H. 140 cm - L. 208 cm
A unique case in Dom Robert's work, Buissons ardents is in fact the only reduction authorised by its author, who favoured extracts from large tapestries.
References: A copy of this tapestry can be found in the marriage room of the town of Aubusson (Creuse).
The Musée Dom Robert also has a copy of Buissons ardents woven during this period.
We would like to thank Sophie Guérin Gasc, member of the Scientific Committee of the Musée Dom Robert, for the invaluable information she provided.
