The young Donatien Nonnotte left his native Burgundy for Paris in
Paris in 1728 where he studied under the aegis of the king's first painter,
François Lemoyne (1688-1737). From then on, Nonnotte became a specialist
in portraiture, a field in which he would enjoy great success
throughout his career. Combining preciousness and elegance, our painting
represents one of these highly sought-after portraits of women, often
often wives, dressed and coiffed in the latest fashion. Amateurs and
and collectors are particularly fond of the artist's ability to convey
refinement and grace through the youthful ardour and contained charm
charm common to all his figures.
