DOSTOYEVSKY (Fedor). The Idiot. Paris, Plon, Nourrit & Cie, [1887]. 2 volumes in-12, half anthracite morocco, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine (P.-L. Martin). First edition of the first French translation, by Victor Derély, who also translated Crime et châtiment (1884), Les Possédés (1886) and Les Pauvres gens (1888). It is accompanied by a preface by Eugène-Melchior de Vogüé, whose essay on The Russian Novel had just been published. This first edition is rare without an edition number. It was not printed on large paper. Minor defects to the preserved covers.
