IV), printed on Arches laid paper, illustrated with a frontispiece etching by Joanny Drevet, depicting the Aiguille Verte and the Dru seen from Chamonix. Memories of climbing in the Dolomites and the Mont Blanc Massif. This book, along with Mummery's, probably best illustrates the spirit of this period in the history of mountaineering.

Robert Touchon (Paris 1878 - La Tronche 1960) was a French soldier. A former student of Saint-Cyr, he was a pioneer of mountaineering and military skiing in the Alpine hunters. He commanded a company and then a battalion of chasseurs during the First World War. He was appointed general in 1933. During the Second World War, he commanded the 6th Army. He retired from the military after the armistice of 1940. He was elected to the Académie Delphinale in 1941.
