Paris, L'Huillier, 1569. In-folio, cream vellum, smooth spine, ochre morocco title page. First edition of these important memoirs illustrated with numerous wood-engraved bands and initials. Large printer's mark on title page. (Brunet I, 747.) Martin du Bellay, brother of Guillaume and Jean, was like them a great captain, a good negotiator and a protector of letters. François I employed him; his memoirs recount the battles and sieges in which the author found himself. Head cover worn. A very fine copy.
