In-12, brown speckled calf, spine grotesquely decorated, speckled edges (pastiche binding by the Ateliers Laurencher). First edition of this work, which marked an immense advance in the understanding of the internal organs of hearing, as well as in the scientific approach to related diseases. It is illustrated with 16 fold-out plates. Du Verney (1648-1730) was physician to the Grand Condé and Queen Christine. The treatise was republished in 1731, the day after the author's death, but had undergone numerous translations into Latin and vernacular languages in the meantime. Garrison & Morton, 1545 and 3351.
