After the death of Wenceslas, Philip the Bold made every effort to take over the monetary administration of Brabant. The clause concerning coinage in the treaty concluded in Ghent in 1339 between the Flemish and the Brabanters was still in force. In May 1384, the Count of Flanders took advantage of certain abuses which, according to him, had crept into its execution, to call a meeting in Lille of commissioners and deputies from both countries. The result was a new monetary agreement that was finally promulgated on 16 July 1384. It was to take effect on 20 August and last for five years. A standard coin, with its multiples and sub-multiples, bearing the arms and names of the count and duchess was created. It was intended to be used as a term of comparison to set the market value of other coins. It was produced in Mechelen for Flanders and in Leuven for Brabant. See De Witte, p. 165.
