Michaud, 1884; large in-8 of 518-[1-xxvi-3] pp. half red morocco with corners, gilt fillet, spine ribbed and decorated, gilt head, untrimmed, cover (V. Champs). Very rare first edition of this first bio-bibliographical study of Dumas père. Edition of 325 copies, including 25 Hollande. Interesting copy of the author with his bookplate, one of 25 (n°3) on Hollande, this one with 6 autograph documents by Alexandre Dumas, reproduced and commented in the book, and 6 portraits of Dumas at different ages. - To Cynthie. Piece of 12 verses, unsigned, written as a teenager after a note by Glinel. - Autograph letter signed to Edmond Cavé, Director of Fine Arts and Theatres at the Ministry of the Interior. - Autograph letter signed to Charles Nodier, dated 2 October 1836: "My good Charles, my great lazy man, my illustrious brother, you who know the past and the present better than God, I do not speak of the future so as not to humiliate it too much; be good enough to tell me who gave birth to this fatal mania for autographs of which you and I are victims...". - Autograph letter signed to a "dear Sir", September 1848, about his candidacy as deputy for Yonne. - Signed autograph letter dated 26 February 1852, addressed from Brussels to Anthénor Joly: "I learn that Ascanio is being rehearsed without my permission at the Porte Saint-Martin...". - Letter from Max de Goret to A. Dumas: "Here is the first act of Kotzebue's translation...". A Dumas enthusiast, Charles Glinel had collected several hundred manuscripts and letters, some of which now form the Glinel collection of the Société Dumas. A very good copy, with a minor damp mark on one cover.
