Lot no. 277
DUNLOP tyres - circa 1950. Flat enamelled plate with rim, vertical format, after Raymond SAVIGNAC. Good condition, very good colours, superb brilliance, main chips at the fixings, very slightly warped at the top. Enamel: "émaillerie Alsacienne de Strasbourg" 147 x 30 cm. In 1888, John Boyd Dunlop invented the pneumatic tyre in Belfast, Northern Ireland, by watching his grandson ride his bicycle. This innovation made transport more comfortable and also meant that less energy was required to move forward. The first pneumatic tyre was born and JB Dunlop registered his first patent on 23 July 1888 (source: dunlop.eu).
