First edition. 1 of 2 folding maps (map of the Vexin, detached) and 1 hors-texte plate (map of Rouen cathedral, bound at the end of vol. 2). The privilege of this book was granted to François Didot, who associated the widow Ganeau, P.-F. Giffart, Nyon père and Nyon fils. This explains the presence of these names on copies of this first edition of 1740. M. de la Vergne de Tressan, archbishop of Rouen, asked Du Plessis, a Benedictine monk from Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, to write a description of the diocese of Rouen. The project never came to fruition, but a large part of this considerable work was taken up and published in this book. Ex-libris "Ex museo J.
