EARLY BYZANTINE BRONZE CENSER Ca. AD 400 - 600. A suspended bronze censer composed of a hemispherical incense bowl with vertical fluting encircling the body. Three small perforations near the rim accommodate looped attachments, from which rise elongated tubular extensions forming the initial segments of the suspension chains. These converge at a central bronze ring, from which a vertical shaft extends and terminates in a suspension hook. For similar see: Christie's Live Auction 8776, Antiquities, Lot. 141.
