EARLY CLASSIC MAYA INCISED ORNAMENT - EX. SOTHEBY'S.
Proto Classic / Early Classic, Ca. 100 BC - AD 400. A fragment of a belt ornament carved from black stone, with an incised glyphic inscription. The text, executed in fine linear detail, begins with what appears to be a calendar round date, followed by three glyphs referring to the 'taking' or 'receiving' of an object, potentially the ornament itself, by a 'K'atun Ahaw'—a young lord. The surface is marked by natural striations running diagonally across the stone. Mounted on a custom-made display stand.Size: 80mm x 60mm; Weight: 210gProvenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex.
