Part of the exhibition "Max Uhlig. At Mont Ventoux. Pictures from the South of France 1991-1993". Ostfildern, Cantz Verlag, 1994. p. 74, no. 49 (with colour illus.). - In the early 1990s, Max Uhlig experienced a fruitful creative phase during which the artist lived and worked in Provence. Inspired by the brittle sensuality of the Provençal landscape, Uhlig translated the impressions of the multifaceted landscapes into large-format works and broke with traditional pictorial structures by emphasising colour and form as the main carriers of meaning. The works were mainly created outdoors and reflect a natural discharge of pent-up energy. In doing so, Uhlig "(...) seeks the hidden natural primal ground in the landscape as cultivated nature (...) by endeavouring to react to it with his own naturalness, which is locked away in his subject, with the actual aim of uniting with the landscape from nature to nature. It is not Uhlig who seeks the motif, but the motif captures him." (Damsch-Wiehager. "At Mont Ventoux. The plenair painter Max Uhlig". In: exhib. Cat. (ibid.), p. 27.). Oil on canvas. Signed and dated. The canvas additionally signed, dated 'Anf. April 93', inscribed 'Faucon' and titled on the verso. Framed. - Only with minor surface dusting. Very good overall. Powerful, expressive composition in vibrant colours. - Part of the exhibition 'Max Uhlig. At Mont Ventoux. Pictures from the South of France 1991-1993'. Ostfildern, Cantz Verlag, 1994. p. 74, no. 49 (with colour illus.). - In the early 1990s, Max Uhlig experienced a flourishing working period in which the artist lived and worked in Provence. Inspired by the brittle sensuality of the Provençal landscape, Uhlig transformed the impressions of the richly nuanced landscapes into large-format works and broke with traditional pictorial structures by emphasising colour and form as the main elements of expression. The works were mainly created en plein air and reflect a natural discharge of accumulated energy. 4000
