With the human figure at the centre, he develops symbolically charged pictorial spaces. In 1989 and 1990, Morgner created a series of works entitled "9.11.1989". These were created as a direct reaction to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Composed in deep black ink, powerfully placed on the picture surface with traces of work and drips, Morgner creates an energetic, seemingly spherical frame for the figure, which is interrupted by the figure of the "Burning Man". This visualises a metaphorical meaning in the sense of the departure - both of the Wall and of the political and social division of Germany - which at the same time testifies to the intensity of the artistic research into the motif.
