EASTERN GREEK SILVER STAG PROTOME.
Ca. 500 BC or later A silver stag protome modelled in the round with a hollow body and forelegs extended forward. A long arched neck supports a narrow head with pointed ears, prominent eyes, and a small beard beneath the jaw, surmounted by a pair of slender, swept-back horns. The neck and shoulders are engraved with dense tufts suggesting a pelt, the pattern continuing in looser contours over the flanks. Size: 130mm x 90mm; Weight: 150g. Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Switzerland; formerly with C.B. collection, 1970s-1990s.
