Lot no. 13
Ecce Homo Neapolitan school, late 17th - early 18th century oil on canvas applied to panel 41 x 31 cm
The scene depicts the Gospel episode of Ecce Homo: Christ crowned with thorns, wrapped in a red cloak and with his hands tied, is presented by Pilate to the crowd. Below, three figures watch with excited gestures, while in the background a soldier can be glimpsed next to the flagellation column. The plastic rendering of the bodies, the loose, moving drapery and the use of warm tones with strong chiaroscuro contrasts recall the late Baroque Neapolitan tradition, close to the circle of Francesco Solimena.
