Lot no. 30
GIA DINH SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS, circa 1960 A polychrome lacquer panel, predominantly red, gold and ochre, depicting two boats on a river whose banks, joined by a bridge, are animated by thatched cottages in the vegetation. Signed Lê Thành lower right. Size: 41 x 61.5 cm Note: on some Vietnamese websites, Lê Thành is likened to Lê Công Thành (1932-2019), a former student at the Vietnam School of Fine Arts, 1958-1962, and a former teacher at the Hanoi School of Industrial Fine Arts. However, Lê Công Thành is best known for his sculptural work, which is very modern, and his paintings, which are in a very different style. No lacquer panels in this style seem to be attributed to him.
