Old restorations French school, 1643, workshop of P. de Champaigne, Portrait of Anne of Austria, original canvas, unframed, with restorations 101 x 72 CM - 39,8 x 28,3 IN. To be compared with the full-length portrait of Anne of Austria painted by Philippe de Champaigne and his workshop (Canvas, 207 x 144 CM) in the Musée du Val de Grâce. Our composition is reproduced in a drawing (Musée du Louvre) and in an engraving by Michel Lasne which mentions the painter's name as "C. de Champaigne". In our painting, Anne of Austria wears the Grand Cross of diamonds and pearls from the Crown Jewels, which had belonged to Marie de Médicis.
