"Portrait of Pierre-Victor de Tocqueville in the uniform of the 1st Regiment of the Royal Guard wearing the insignia of the Order of Saint Louis, Officer of the Legion of Honour, the Decoration of Fidelity and the Iron Crown. Oil on canvas. Height 22 cm; Width: 16 cm. Important giltwood frame with pen and ink identification (restorations). Circa 1830. Historical background: This portrait is particularly interesting because it sums up the career of our man, Pierre-Victor de TOCQUEVILLE (1791-1871) : He wears the uniform of the Royal Guard infantry in which he served for part of the Restoration and which he left as battalion commander to serve in the King's bodyguard as marshal of the logis. He wore the epaulettes of lieutenant-colonel, a rank with which he left the service in 1828. His decorations include knighthood in the Order of the Iron Crown, awarded by Emperor Napoleon I after his conduct at Dresden (1813), where he captured a cannon with twenty grenadiers.
