This is a repeat of the painting by Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson, Atala au tombeau, 1808, in the Musée du Louvre (inv. 4958). Painted in 1808, the scene is taken from Chateaubriand's novel Atala ou Les Amours de deux sauvages dans le désert, published in 1801.
