18th century French school (After Jean-Baptiste Van Loo) Portrait of Jeanne-Agnès Berthelot de Pléneuf (1698-1727), Marquise de Prie, with a goldfinch Oil on canvas 62 x 51 cm Provenance: Private collection, Paris In 1762, Dezallier d'Argenville cited a portrait of Jeanne-Agnès Berthelot de Pléneuf (1698-1727) by Jean-Baptiste Van Loo. The work was a great success, as the many surviving reproductions attest. One copy is in the Hermitage, St Petersburg, and bears an inscription on the reverse: 'painted by Van Loo at the Hôtel de Soissons in 1721 for M. de Doux'. The portrait painted by Van Loo was engraved by Jacques Chéreau le Jeune (1688-1776). 18th century French school (After Jean-Baptiste Van Loo) 62 x 51 cm
