PROVENANCE Anonymous sale, Christie's, London, 5 May 1972, n° 168 (Ricci). An attribution to Giacinto Brandi has been suggested. Our painting is closer to Claudio Coello, a pupil of Francisco Rizzi. Known as a portraitist and draughtsman, he specialised in religious paintings.
