Late 19th century Russian school - "Virgin of the Burning Bush", tempera on wood, depicting an eight-pointed star surrounding the image of the Virgin and Child of the Hodigitria type (the one who shows the way). The star is made up of two pointed quadrilaterals with concave edges, one of which is red, the image of the flame, and the other yellow. The four symbols of the Evangelists and Archangels are positioned in the corners of the icon. At the top left is Moses, who sees the burning bush that is not consumed. Bottom left: Ezekiel in front of an architectural structure where Christ can be seen coming through the open door. This is Ezekiel's vision of the Eastern Gate. Above right, the purification of Isaiah by an angel holding embers. Bottom right: Jacob and the ladder to heaven. H. 35 x 30 cm Condition: Numerous restorations.
