Bears a label on the back: "Painted by Agneessens, Louis Léon Delhaye 1872-1889, brother of Jeanne Delhaye, wife Druart mother of Simone wife Bergé, Eugène Delhaye father of Paul and Denise. Note: a pupil of Jean-François Portaels, Édouard Agneessens was a member of the L'Art Libre group in 1860. Between 1869 and 1870, he lived in St Petersburg, Russia. In 1868, he was one of the founding members of the Société libre des beaux-arts in Brussels.
