Édouard Henri LÉON (1873-1968). "Street scene" and "Market scene". Two charcoals and watercolours on paper, signed. H. 37 x W. 27 cm and H. 29 x W. 36.5 cm. Édouard Henri Léon studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he was taught by Léon Bonnat, Gustave J. Jaquet and Eugène Gaujean. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and was awarded the Légion d'honneur during his career. A recognised engraver and esteemed teacher, he founded the Édouard Léon studio in Paris, rue de Médéah, in what is now the 14ᵉ arrondissement. In 1920, he presented his sketches to the Brooklyn Society of Etchers and the Print Makers Society of California. In 1927, his works were also exhibited at the Witte Memorial Museum in San Antonio, Texas.
