Lot no. 1911
Edward Cucuel (1875 San Francisco - 1954 Pasadena) Bathing female nude on the shore of a lake A young lady standing on the shore of an Upper Bavarian lake in front of a rowing boat, drying herself with a towel, with a summer dress and a hat laid down next to her on a tree. Impressionistic depiction, executed in a loose style, which captures the light-filled overall mood. The motif, style and cheerful impression of this sheet are typical of a series of works that Cucuel created on Lake Ammersee and Lake Starnberg from 1918 onwards. There he often painted summery ladies, bathers and nudes in barges or on the lake shore. The light colouring, characterised by a luminous overall tone, clearly shows the influence of German and French Impressionism. Between 1909 and 1913, Cucuel was the most important pupil of Leo Putz, the main representative of the Munich artists' association "Die Scholle", who had a lasting influence on him. Watercolour/paper. L. and signed; 33 cm x 23.5 cm. Frame. Watercolour on paper. Signed.
