Lot no. 1939
Egon Tschirch (1889 Rostock - 1948 ibid.) Standing female nude with fur coat in front of a pine forest Nude probably depicting his lover Jutta Adler in an ostentatiously erotic pose with an open fur coat and hands resting on her waist. Egon Tschirch received his artistic training from 1907 to 1912 in Berlin at the renowned Kunstgewerbemuseum under Bruno Paul, at the Königliche Kunstschule under Viktor Mohn and at the academy under Anton von Werner. Tschirch returned to Rostock in 1913, set up a studio and organised his first art exhibition. During the Weimar Republic, Tschirch, who partly turned to Expressionism, became one of the leading figures in Rostock's art scene. At the height of his career in 1928, he was regarded as "currently the strongest painter personality in Mecklenburg", who was compared to Oskar Kokoschka and whose paintings were juxtaposed with works by Lovis Corinth in the Schwerin State Museum. His oeuvre has only been rediscovered since the 1990s; special exhibitions of Tschirch's work were held in Rostock in 1998, 2015 and 2020. Oil on canvas; signed on the reverse; 96 cm x 79 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas. Signed.
