EGYPTIAN AMETHYST SCARAB IN GOLD SWIVEL RING.
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC An amethyst scarab carved with a rounded head, convex pronotum and elytra with vertical ribbing, the flat underside engraved with hieroglyphic signs, and mounted in an oval gold frame as the swivel element of a possibly later gold ring with a rounded wire hoop terminating in tight coiled collars clasping the transverse bar. Size: D:18.95mm / US: 9 / UK: R 1/2; Weight: 3g. Provenance: Private London collection of an established Mayfair dealer and scholar with over 40 years of experience; previously part of 1970s-1990s UK collection.
