EGYPTIAN BLACK STEATITE HEAD OF AMON WITH FEATHERS CROWN. New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A black steatite head of the god Amun, with a feathered crown. The head is carved with an elongated face, recessed almond-shaped eyes, a flat nose, and a straight mouth. The crown is composed of a vertically arranged feathered headdress, rendered in parallel ridged sections, divided into four bands with linear and scalloped incisions. The feathers extend upwards symmetrically, tapering slightly toward the top. The base of the crown transitions into a horizontal band representing a fillet, subtly curved to fit the head.
