Lot no. 24
EGYPTIAN BLUE FAIENCE TILE WITH CARTOUCHE OF AKHENATEN Ca. 1351 - 1334 BC An Egyptian, New Kingdom deep blue faience tile bearing the fragment cartouche of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. The blue tile is undecorated at the back for attachment. It is suggested that they were meant to imitate reed matting from the walls of Akhenaten's palace. The blue colour of the tile reminded the viewer of water, a symbol of rebirth in ancient Egypt because of the cycle of the Nile.
